Since 2008 there have been highs: 9 films. Several awards. Millions of viewers.
There have been lows: Countless rejected proposals. Negative cash flow. Debt. Fear, loathing and anxiety.
But through it all the company has managed to survive and occasionally thrive.
Everything good that has taken place at Prospector over the past 10 years has been due to the hard work and brilliance of the filmmakers, producers, artists, technicians, mentors, suppliers, partners, financiers and distributors we work with. I owe them everything. To them I say THANK YOU.
The bad has mostly been the result of my own blundering and ego. But I persist, as it were. I try moving forward and learning from my mistakes. It’s what we do as independent film producers, and as humans. Careers aren’t built overnight. They’re built over time, on a foundation of privilege and based on the efforts and talents of countless people.
Right now the future looks bright. In the short term we’re making Jeff Barnaby’s sophomore feature film BLOOD QUANTUM. We have great scripts in development with Lanan Adcock, Wiebke von Carolsfeld, Mark Slutsky, Sarah Fobes & Anh Nguyen. And we’re circling new ideas and collaborators that will lead to new and exciting ventures.
But the film industry is in transition and it’s hard to predict how the next 10 years will unfold. I can only control what I choose to do. And what I choose is to continue to support filmmakers who have an important voice, a unique perspective, and whose stories must be heard by the mainstream. Stories that reach into your chest, grab hold of your heart and show you something urgent, important and exciting.
